Monday Morning Mirth

And so it begins... I'm only human.
I HAVE to eat. SO I have to go shopping.
And thus it happens.
THE ONSLAUGHT!
The millions of Products invading my space with their buyability because they are adorned with...
SHREK!
So far, I've succumbed to this lovely Ogre Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap. The soap comes out of Shrek's hand and smells Apple-y. I washed many times yesterday. It's absolutely logical - if the Ogre can't kill Germs, who can?!
Then, there were the chips~! I'm not even supposed to EAT chips. And there in my cart is a HUGE bag of Lay's Wavy's with the Donkey & Shrek on the bag.
Oh, did I mention the M&M's?!
Beth tipped me off several weeks ago: "Shrek M&Ms - seriously, my daughter came home from a night at Grandma's with a big bag of them. They're Shrek-y colors and a bit bigger than the average M&M.
Thought you'd like to know - beth"
Right ON Beth! I'm there!
And what kind of friend would I be if I didn't spead the JOY!? +++++++++++++++++++++++ BIG, GREEN MONEY MACHINE
"Based on the first film's success, DreamWorks has licensed about 80 companies to make "Shrek" items from watches to skateboards, bed sheets to backpacks, and toothpaste to computer games.
Eight promotional partners include PepsiCo's Frito-Lay unit, which is offering its Cheetos snack in a version that turns tongues green. Hewlett-Packard Co is selling "Shrek" computer products, and fast-food chain Burger King has "Shrek" collectibles."
some Faves...
1. the Shrek Etch-a-Sketch: I could put this to good use in traffic jams on the Kennedy...
2. the Talking Donkey (only will get if he says: "I'm goona make waffles!")
3. And the plush Beanie 7" Donkey (and you all thought I was only in love with the Big Guy!)
4. Shrek 3 is in the works and will revolve around Shrek joining the Knights of the Round Table!

StreetChic ============================ take a walk around my block
Ralph Lauren Store, Michigan Ave.
Why is it that Warm Weather and Bright Colors seem to be locked together in a torrid embrace?
For the past few weeks, the skies of Chicago have been drabbly heavy with thunder clouds and constant rain. The bright neon stripes of this tube top are shocking in their ability to almost blind with COLOR in the midst of all this gloom.
The Great Lakes Area is lucky to receive tropic-like sunshine for more than a few weeks every year. One year, I lived in a large house with a larger garden and counted the times I could sit out in the yard without extreme weather: 6 DAYS TOTAL. There was plenty of High wind. RAIN. And just the bleakest drab outlook for most of the summer.
Then again, we can have killer sunshine and temps for three months in a row.
As the temperatures now climb, the very same colors are starting to make sense...
So, perhaps, Mr. Ralph is practicing some Miami voodoo on us Northerners by dangling these clothes in our pallid little faces...
I would wear this suit in a second, if I lived 3 hours south...
What summer house wouldn't be complete with some very bright cabled pillows and a kelly green afghan?

hmm, which side is the *wrong* side?
Even though the world is swimming in beautiful yarn this spring, the 3attaTime Rule is still in effect here at the ChicKnits Workshop....
But what a number 3 it is! I've finally started the prototype for a Ribby Shell, to be offered in multiple sizes. This Shell will be the first offspring of the Ribby Family - which eventually will include the Cardi & Pulli...
Since we all need shells for the summer! of course the shell begins the parade.
I am making this prototype from a Vittadini yarn called Teresa - it is a cotton/nylon mixture, almost a ribbon, but actually a tube.
Imagine the tiniest panty-hose leg (that's the nylon part) filled with soft cotton - it is really incredible stuff.
Teresa will grow into a plain panel front Ribby, because even with that smooth tube there's a little variation with the cotton which lends a keen texture to the mix.
Next in line is the 2x2x3x1 Ribby Shell, which will be in the same offering - and this will be made from Tahki Cotton Classic.
The gauge on both these shells and other Family friends will be 5sts / 7 rows per inch (20/28 worsted/dk).
AND, what do I like most about this project? But of course - NO SLEEVES!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I've updated the ChicKnits Website to include a catalog section, where ChicKnits Patterns for sale will now reside. check it out here...
 shop online
You can also reach the catalog by clicking on the word PATTERNS in the toolbar at the top of the page - or you can find the Catalog Button on the left side of this page and other places around l'Atelier ChicKnits...
Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful pattern support! I find it absolutely THRILLING to see your creations around the web and in public - it inspires me to reach way up in the design sky!

 ============================ Onde = Wave = Ombre
more beautiful Onde Stars!

I can say for a FACT the East Village of Chicago is illuminated with STYLE!
Theresa, my neighbor and good friend, has finished her fabulous Onde Pulli in the fresh tones of Chlorophylle - ce modèle est plus frais que le printemps!
She writes: ""It's hard to describe how light and airy the sweater is. Even though it's composed of about 600 g of yarn, it has a light-as-a-feather quality about it. I think this is achieved due to a combination of the texture and gauge and composition of the yarn. Phil'Onde is a fairly fine yarn (somewhere between sport and DK weight) so you wouldn't expect it to work well knit on 5 mm (US 8) needles. But the nubbly texture works in your favor here and sort of fills in the nooks and crannies. I think the fact that this yarn is mostly acrylic also works in my favor -- a lightweight springy garment is less susceptible to the ravages of gravity."
Our very own co-host, the intrepid Leya, is just about done with her Nenuphar Pulli! Read her May 20th entry for lots of helpful hints on finishing with this yarn...
Leya - vous ROCHE! Thanks for SHARING!
Join me in wishing Carissa the best as she bids blogging farewell and let her know we hope it's only a hiatus! She's almost finished with her Onde as well...
HELLO!!! Rob not only joins our happy little Karaoke singALONG while he knits an Onde of his own, il apporte quelques boules au bandstand - and I am talkin' YARN! Congrats ROB for becoming a Phildar rep - now grab the mic and sing a few bars!
Fellow Chicagoan and Purse Artiste Cinnamon also joins our group with a Chlorophylle Creation...
Besides having a SHREK FEST! Desha, the Knitting Knerd, is hard at work on her Onde! How green with envy am I that she has a huge inflatable Ogre on top of her local burger hut? Dag...
But of course, my Onde is moving right along... this piece is 22" wide and 18" long
I'm actually not as far along as I hoped - we've had flooding and radical storms all over the area and I've been working 50-60 hours a week the last few weeks. This weekend, I'm working on the big Memorial Day Parade. When oh when will I find the time to sitNknit?
This is one project, because of size that will never see the time of day on the #66...
I did, however, make peace with my sleeve caps and have graphed and charted out a more fitting armhole for myself...

The past two weeks have been a real weather humdinger in the Midwest. Today is the first day in MANY with clear skies and bright sun!
I KNOW there is great joy and lightness of heart in many, many households today as the flood waters recede and life can start to point in the direction NORMAL.
I've spent many hours in the flood areas working and taking pictures of the dedicated efforts of so many - it is absolutely unbelievable how folks draw together during crisis to work for endless hours in the face of nature's challenge. MY hat's off TO YOU: from the groups of High School Students, to Churches, to neighbors, to Girl & Boy Scouts, to Sheriff Sheehan's Work Release guys, to the 3yo who begged his dad to go home and get *his* shovel because he wanted to fill sand bags alongside him, to the drivers of the personal cars who hauled load after load of bags to their neighbors, and even to the drunk guy who showed up at a sand pile at the edge of the river complaining to the cop directing traffic that his neighbor was messing up his lawn and who was met with whistles and catcalls and thumbsdown by everyone else - TODAY the sky salutes YOU...
And just what could this have to do with knitting? In a word: SOCKS...
Do you wear your wool socks in warmer weather? Me neither. Until last week, when I ran out of clean clothes and started raiding the winter storage, pulling out my woolies.
Wool keeps you warm even when it's wet; it breathes; it really adjusts to your temperature and fondles your feet. And my barkin' dog-O-feet know whereof they speak as I was on my feet for HOURS & hours, etc, whine, whine, whine, BARK! [And in the northern hemisphere of my bod, I have so many mosquito bites on my head, it approximates a lunar landscape...]
SO, I'm still knitting socks to wear to work. I've gone on to Wool/Hemp - some really pretty organic looking sportweight yarn from Dzined and am making these socks whenever I am in a KIP moment when the space is too tight or the time is too short to whip out the Agnes design I'm carrying with me these days.
This yarn makes a really soft, lightweight fabric that I love wearing - I already have a pair from last year that I wear year round... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My sister, Cat, is the best flea marketer in the universe. On one of her hunts, she found these Argyle Sock Patterns in with some sewing stash. And off to me they came...
Thanks Sis!!! These are really COOL...
