You Can Dress Her Up but, you know...

It was a rockin' fun weekend in the city both days! Saturday night, I ate at Cafe Luxe and then went to see Stevie Winwood play at the House of Blues. FAB Fab fab...
What did I see everywhere?
Mini-ponchos...
Most were vintage!
I must have one! So, once again, I'm Bonnie Come Lately to the Poncho KnitAlong over at the Blue Blog. I'm about 4 weeks behind everyone else...
AND, I couldn't find a poncho pattern that I liked well enough to make. I want mine to be 15" long - haven't decided if fringe is in - and have a *Quick Release* shawl collar that I'm going to find some Ultra Toggles for somewhere. (I just need one!) Why the shawl collar? Hmmm, I need a built-in scarf but also an opening big enough not to manhandle my hair during repeated take-off, put-on cycles over my leather jacket. Incessant Whining Brain Chatter: "Haven't seen this pattern. I don't want to knit it from the neck down. I don't want to knit with #17 needles. I don't want it to be stiff. I want a shawl collar. I don't want to knit anything in garter stitch. I can't find the gauge I'm getting with the yarn combo I'm making...
Guess I'll have to write it up myself and share it with you!" Sunday was spent with the wonderful and talented Theresa sampling Evanston and the north City yarn shops. I was totally enticed with bulky yarns - they're a lot more light weight because most are now wool/acrylic blends.
BUT, I could not find my groove...
Then it dawned on me that many of the yarns looked like multi-stranded skinny weight yarns. I could combine some things I have in stash that might work - especially a brushed merino worsted gauge yarn I have from Crystal Palace called Merino Frappe. It is a warm Olive color and is as lightweight as mohair without the tickling, shedding, and heavy warmth. BUT, I never have found a use for it after knitting a swatch, which I found to be flabby beyond belief! AND, believe it or not, the color was just too cocktail olive green for me. I'm a Shrek green girl myself...
I am combining the flabby Frappe with a strand of smoky light aqua Rowan DK Soft, which is also flabby and a strand of Bernat Sesame sportweight yarn in the lightest soft beige, which is mildly flabby and very thin...
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Materials:
Yarn: I think I need 650 yds each of three different yarns - yarns must be *flabby* ie. drape well...
The poncho will be worked in two pieces, front and back, Starting from the bottom up, with #11 needles and switching to #13 after the first 2 rows.
Gauge: 3sts/ 4rows per inch or 12sts/16rows per 4"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
stay tuned - the MiniChic Poncho pattern starts tomorrow...

Good Toe, Bad Toe
Not Poncho weather, but really it WAS hot Hot HOT baseball weather...
So, while enjoying the rare 80 degree evening, I took the opportunity to sort of clean out the *sock basket*. I have fallen prey to the habit of starting socks, then picking them like fruit when I have a need to have some Color Therapy.
Some Opal Mexico socks have been languishing for quite awhile; their bright color was just too provocative for my family challenged brain waves. One sock was finished but the toe shape, as given in the pattern I was using, turned out really pointy and steep. I had not the will to re-do.
Instead, I've been knitting its mate on the #66 whenever and finished it tonight with a nice wide toe for my doughy wide pierogi feet. I actually traced my foot and dare not share the shocking result!
THEN the Cubs went up by 8 - 0 in the second game of the NLSC and I got the fever!
I ripped the first sock back to where the toe shaping starts to follow suit. Should be done by the beginning of Game 3.
