Profiles in Knitting
*********************************

Edith Eig is probably the Fairy Godmother
of all the Superstar Knitters that have popped
up all over movie sets the last couple of years...
AND she's French! I would love to drop into
her shop La
Knitterie Pariseiene this afternoon and
knit a few rounds...
From the pages of DIY:
"Edith Eig has nurtured her business, La Knitterie
Parisienne, into the world's most successful
and recognizable knitting-yarn boutique of its
kind. Her passion for and dedication to her
art has earned her many titles, chief among
them "Hollywood's knitting guru," a nickname
bestowed on her by People magazine, Entertainment
Tonight and social columnist Liz Smith.
Born in Paris, France, and knitting since the
age of 5, Eig has been instrumental in nurturing
knitting's thriving renaissance, putting what
was once considered a lost art back into public
consciousness, where it has become a phenomenally
popular "new" art form / hobby on a local, national
and international level.
More than just a small-business owner, Eig practices
a sort of global thinking that has defined her
as an entrepreneur, savvy businesswoman, fashion
designer, stylist, therapist, friend and knitting
instructor to the stars.
For more than 25 years, she has been renowned
as an expert in the field. She is highly admired
by her clients, who rely on her expertise, knowledge,
intuitive sense of style, interpretation of
yarns, patience and uncompromising level of
personal attention."

August 4th entry
for some purse ideas...
Dontcha just wanta fantasize about getting
your gifting projects done early???
(Yeah, like that'll happen...)
I do have a couple rockin' Wool-You-Order felted
bag patterns I got at a yarn store earlier this
year. Very interesting things - I'd like to
meet the brains behind the designs sometimes.

Monday Morning Mirth
or how Chicago ROCKS
the VOTE without resorting to handguns...
Autumn is my favorite time of year because
it is such a knitter's holiday! Get out the
Wool! Bring in the longjohns!
This fall also just happens to be in an election
year. It's turning out to be one of the most
bloated, ugly, canidate bashing affairs in Chicago
to date.
The gubnatorial race is especially hilarious
since one of the candidates has the same name
as the exiting scandalous Governor Ryan (who
actually is a rather nice old goober pharmacist
from Kankakee who got hooked into the Dark Side
late in the game).
Guilt by association is the name of the game
here but wait. We have sex scandals, license
for bribes, internet pranks, felon campaign
aides, and some of the most bizarre ads I've
ever witnessed on MY TV!
If I didn't know better, I'd say someone forgot
their meds when they booked the edit rooms.
Since I have the privilege to work in television,
my election night assignment will be with the
Attorney General Candidate Lisa Madigan. She
is the daughter of a rather notorious politician
and a current State Senator with no courthouse
cases under her belt. Great fodder for the ads
- her opponents have bashed her endlessly and
she comes off as the PMS Diva of the Beef Belt
in a way never before seen on the airwaves!
I will be stuck at her election HQ in an elegant
downtown hotel most of the day tomorrow. I will
be doing what any sane person would do. I will
be KNITTING!
Please exercise your constitution rights and
VOTE for the candidate of your choice AND what
I should bring with me to knit:
Lime green Rowan Cork Buttonhole
Scarf
Noro Kureyon pink/purple felted buttonhole
scarf
Bonkers sleeve (1x1 rib EEEEHHEE!)
All of the above

Riot Chic
Just another day on the Beat... I'm getting
ready for work this morning, a little coffee,
a little blogging, a little knitting, maybe...
It just dawned on me (still in brain slo-mo
after the 14 hour election night. The Bonkers
sleeve is almost done!!!) that today most likely
I will be at the sight of the WTO Conference
doing SOmeTHing. I was there all day yesterday
and I can hear the choppers already. I live
two miles away and it's 6am...
What to wear to a possible insurrection? Hmmm...
Yesterday, I had on jeans, a Black Polar Fleece
jacket with a hooded lined vest over it, Doc
Martens - AND a cool lilac shearling bucket
hat from Italy! Got asked out by a cop (cute)
and I'd swear it's by virtue ( or implied lack
of virtue of the wearer) of the hat!
Today I laid out my clothes - same black jacket,
black vest, but black jeans, black silk snuggies,
and black turtleneck. EEEekk... Now I look like
a SWAT Cop! I'll be wearing all of my ID and
if I'm just walking around someone might throw
pee-pee on me! Can you imagine that? I've been
in a couple of near-riots during the last Presidential
Democratic convention here and when things start
happening, it goes real fast and real stupid.
HMMmmm...
I think I better switch to my bright blue Polar
Fleece Jacket, olive hooded vest BUT with my
new black ribbed stocking hat! It means bizness...
I WILL be having FUN watching all the fashion
stylings of the protesters. Chicago is a land-locked
*fashion island* of sorts so *difference* sticks
out more here. Kids with Blue Hair are gaped
at by all age groups. Anarchists will probably
satisfy the Chicagoan Stare Within for the rest
of 2002...
